This article is about a recent trip that we arranged for Mt. Pilatus was for Brenda and her Group. We go in-depth right from the request stage to the final execution.
Email Request for Private Tour to the Alps
All the conversations started with one email from Brenda through our website. Brenda & her group were doing the Viking Europe river cruise trip, As they were staying in Zurich, they wanted to make use of this opportunity to make a trip to at least on the Alps in Switzerland.
The challenge was that they had only one day. Initially, we made two proposals:
A day tour from Zurich to Mt. Titlis needs at a minimum of 8 Hours. Whereas a day tour from Zurich to Mt. Pilatus could be done easily in 5-6 hours of time.
As we came to know that they were already doing the Viking River Tour organized by another company on the morning of the tour day, it was not possible to go to Mt. Titlis. We proposed to dropoff Mt. Titlis from the plan and go for Mt. Pilatus. Brenda & her group completely agreed with us and decided to book the tour to Mt. Pilatus.
It was a beautiful afternoon on May 26, 2019. Weather was neither too hot, nor too cold. Our guests were waiting for Steve to arrive at the Renaissance Zurich Tower Hotel in Zurich, a stylish urban hotel for a comfortable stay. As our van arrived earlier than the decided time, the joy on the faces of the group after seeing us was priceless. They sat on the van; Mercedes Benz Cuby Sprinter that comfortably accommodated their group of 8 along with our friendly tour guide; Marcelo.
The tour started with a short drive around Alpnachstad – a railway station in the beautiful town of Alpnach. The city is not very known among tourists, but it’s getting the attention of the people around the world gradually, thanks to it’s relaxing environment and surrounding attractions.
After arriving at Alpnachstad, we took the Cogwheel Train that is considered the steepest railway in the world.
The train started in 1889, and it takes you to Pilatus in about 30 minutes. Crossing about 2,132 meters and witnessing surreal views of Alpine massif and its mountain range, we, along with our guests, finally reached the summit.
Brenda and her group were astonished after seeing the view from the top of the top. There were so many things to do here, such as hiking up the mountain, but due to the shortage of time, they couldn’t do it all.
Our team had arranged an aerial cableway known as “Dragon Ride” & gondola ride down to Kriens for them. We could see Brenda and her group having a great time chatting with each other and witness the panoramic views of small villages on the way through the city. From there, we had a short 5-minute walk to the bus stop.
“Getting down to Kriens was no less than a dream due to the scenery it offered to us”, said Brenda. We were glad to see how they all were tired due to a long trip since morning but were not ready to give up. Steve drove over the country road showing them the gorgeous Lake Lucerne to the medieval town of Lucerne.
Lake Lucerne is one of the most spectacular lakes in Switzerland with a stunning landscape featuring meadows and boat cruises. Marcelo told them that the lake is incredibly popular in the summer season, with an influx of tourists. You can also swim in the lake or enjoy a relaxing sunbath on its shores.
Unfortunately, our travel group didn’t have much time to enjoy all of it, but they made a promise to us that they’ll be coming again and stay for a longer period.
The medieval city of Lucerne is a gorgeous area featuring buildings dating back to the 15th century. Many of the buildings have facades with painted artwork portraying the real medieval life. Marcelo told them that the old town is accessible only by foot, where you can stroll around the beautiful cobblestone streets and buy from the pretty old shops. The old city of Lucerne certainly gives you vibes of how lifestyle used to be centuries ago. The good thing is, the old town is very well preserved.
As time was running out and they had to reach their hotel, Marcelo gave them a short orientation tour of the old town, Chapel Bridge, and Lions Monument. The Chappel Bridge was built in the 14th century and is now the oldest covered bridge in entire Europe. It was destroyed in 1992 but was restored to the same old structure. Marcelo also told them about the water tower right beside the bridge that once served as a torture chamber and prison. Today, the tower serves as a club room.
The Lion Monument is a beautifully carved sculpture that was built in 1821. The dying lion represents the bravery of the Swiss forces during the French Revolution
Luckily, our team overheard that some of the persons in Brenda’s group are golfers. Instead of dropping them to their hotel, we took them to Lucerne Golf Club, where they had a delicious meal with a breathtaking view of alps. Thanks to Marcelo, he was able to book for the guests at the club in a very short period.
